Joana Mallwitz appointed honorary conductor of the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg

Joana Mallwitz has been appointed honorary conductor of the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra. The title is a first in the orchestra's more than 100-year history, according to a spokesperson.

Her creative and innovative formats as well as her exemplary commitment to musical education work had "raised the Nuremberg State Philharmonic Orchestra to a new artistic level and had a lasting impact", the statement said. State Director Jens-Daniel Herzog said: "Joana Mallwitz has the not-so-common gift of taking people with her even when things get difficult and everyone has to make an effort. This is how she has inspired, driven and fueled the Nuremberg State Theatre for five years."

According to Nuremberg's deputy mayor Julia Lehner (CSU), Mallwitz has become an audience favorite in the Middle Franconian city. With the Junge Staatsphilharmonie, she founded a youth orchestra at the Nuremberg State Theater.
